Combining capabilities to serve the high-tech industry

FM Logistic and Kuehne + Nagel have set up the joint venture company “COLOGIC” to provide product completion, product planning, purchasing and related logistics activities to the high-tech industry.

Similar in philosophy and culture, and complementary regarding their special logistics know-how and offering, FM Logistic and Kuehne + Nagel have known each other for many years, in particular due to their focus on the high-tech industry and mutual customers.

As a result of a recent joint market analysis, the two companies were confirmed in their aim to best serve the industry by joining forces. A combined service offering will optimally meet today’s and future needs of the high-tech sector. Customers will benefit from the extended geographic reach and logistics capabilities as well as the provision of integrated value-added services.

Going far beyond traditional international forwarding, warehousing and distribution services, the new entity COLOGIC, managed equally by the parent companies, will offer product completion (final assembly, customisation, localisation) and production planning (management of inbound generic products and components) services. Furthermore, COLOGIC will manage purchasing and inventory of raw material and components as well as related logistics services.

The comprehensive product offering, joint capabilities and the long-term strategy of COLOGIC ideally meets Hewlett Packard’s (HP) needs, who have selected COLOGIC as one of its preferred strategic partners, specifically for the IPG (Imaging and Printing) product range.

COLOGIC will operate as Lead Logistics Provider on behalf of HP and manage the activities currently performed by Kuehne + Nagel and FM Logistic.

“We are very proud to name Hewlett Packard, one of the leading players in the high-tech industry, as the first customer of COLOGIC. This underlines the strength of our concept,” said Jean-Christophe Machet, Co-CEO of FM Logistic.

Dirk Reich, Executive Vice President Contract Logistics, Kuehne + Nagel International AG, comments, “This expanded service offering confirms our strategy of industry specialisation and innovation. I am confident that we will see further awards from customers in this segment in the near future.”
