New distribution centre in the Netherlands

With today’s ground-breaking ceremony, construction work started for Kuehne + Nagel’s new distribution centre in Helmond, a built-to-suit facility, which is being developed by the Goodman property group and is designed to run the storage and distribution activities for Kuehne + Nagel.

The new facility is strategically located in Helmond, near Eindhoven, and will include 22,000 sqm of warehousing space, 16 loading docks, a 1,600 sqm mezzanine and 1,500 sqm office space. The multi-purpose building meets the TAPA safety standards required by Kuehne + Nagel and ensures sustainable operations by high insulation values and energy-saving infrastructure. The facility is scheduled to be operational in March 2009.

From the new facility in Helmond some 100 staff will provide dedicated logistics solutions and value-added warehousing services. Tim Beckmann, Director Contract Logistics for Kuehne + Nagel in the Netherlands, comments: “The new high-quality distribution centre will provide the necessary infrastructure to expand our logistics service offering and to further increase the efficiency of our operations in the Netherlands.”

For Goodman, the integrated global property group which owns, develops and manages industrial and office space globally, the agreement further expands its pan-European partnership with Kuehne + Nagel. Ruud Weijmans, General Manager Development for Goodman in the Netherlands, explains: “Thanks to our long-term relationship with Kuehne + Nagel and the strength of our integrated business model, we have a very good understanding of their needs and were able to respond with a high-quality warehouse solution that will enhance the efficiencies of both Kuehne + Nagel and its customers.”
