Metso extends partnership with Kuehne + Nagel in China

Shanghai / China, April 20, 2011 – Metso Minerals (Tianjin) International Trade Co. Ltd, a global supplier of technology and services for the construction and mining industries, has awarded Kuehne + Nagel a contract for the planning, implementation and management of a new distribution centre in Shanghai.

With this new contract the two companies extend their five-year partnership. Since 2006, Kuehne + Nagel has been providing international forwarding services for the Finnish mining and construction expert, and in 2008, the logistics provider took over the management of Metso Minerals’ Tianjin spare parts distribution centre.

To further streamline its domestic distribution processes in China, Metso decided to open an additional distribution centre in Shanghai. Based on the successful operation in Tianjin, Kuehne + Nagel has established a dedicated 7,000 sqm facility with a monthly inbound handling capacity of more than 1,600 tons for Metso in Shanghai’s Baoshan district. At the new site Kuehne + Nagel is providing a wide range of services, including warehousing, value-added services like batch management or picking and packing as well as container loading for seafreight exports.

“Metso’s goal is to improve customer satisfaction, operational excellence and speed by improving parts availability and delivery reliability. Kuehne + Nagel has demonstrated its capabilities by continuously increasing our inventory visibility and reducing lead times. Due to our successful cooperation in Tianjin we awarded Kuehne + Nagel the contract for our new distribution centre in Shanghai,” said Li JingYuan, DC Manager of Metso Minerals (Tianjin) International Trade Co. Ltd.

“We are delighted about the extended partnership with Metso which is built upon proven logistics excellence and market knowledge,” commented Jens Drewes, National Manager of Kuehne + Nagel Central and North China.
