Kuehne + Nagel’s Baton Challenge raised funds for charitable activities in 85 countries

The employee initiated fundraising world tour “Baton Challenge” recently arrived at its final destination in Brazil after having completed over 300,000 km. More than 10,000 Kuehne + Nagel employees volunteered to support charitable activities globally.

The idea of the Kuehne + Nagel “Baton Challenge” was born in the Kuehne + Nagel Global Talent Programme, a 2-year development training that prepares high potential employees to become future leaders of the company. Asked to identify a suitable project to showcase the capabilities and strength of the Group’s worldwide network, a team of participants initiated a global fundraising project. While the “Baton” was passed from country to country via road, rail, air and sea using Kuehne + Nagel’s expertise and logistics infrastructure, in each host country local employees realised fundraising activities and volunteer work to support people in need.

The baton travelled 85 countries, where funds and helping hands for around 120 charitable organisations including orphanages, children and elderly care homes, hospitals and animal care centres were provided. During the world tour, the Baton Challenge raised 70,000 kg of donated clothes and goods and 1,500 units of donated blood.

Lothar Harings, Chief Human Resources Officer of Kuehne + Nagel International AG comments:
“I am very proud of this outstanding accomplishment illustrating the creativity and enthusiasm of our global talents. The Baton Challenge not only confirms the commitment and dedication of all our employees worldwide to achieve a common goal, but also the high degree of social responsibility and solidarity with the local communities."
