Kuehne + Nagel wins major warehousing and distribution contract from Sony

Kuehne + Nagel has been awarded a 3-year contract to manage warehousing and national distribution of Sony’s Electronics Division products. The agreement includes comprehensive value-added services.

Operating out of its Tepotzotlán distribution centre north of Mexico City, Kuehne + Nagel is dedicating approximately 40,000 sqm of warehouse space to Sony. Products handled encompass personal, audio, video and digital imaging products.

Leopoldo Peña, Divisional Manager of Business Planning Logistics, Sony Mexico, states: “We were looking for a solution that would significantly reduce the fixed costs in our logistics operations and provide a more efficient delivery process while at the same time ensuring continual improvement of our supply chain quality levels.”

Kuehne + Nagel has established a Verification Unit, which works as a third party, responsible for ensuring Sony products’ compliance with Mexican regulations.

Value-added services include inserting Spanish literature, re-packing and product configuration, among others. Efficient domestic distribution is ensured via Kuehne + Nagel’s standardised transport management system; goods are delivered from Tepotzotlán directly to end customers.

Julio Marin, Vice President Contract Logistics, Kuehne + Nagel Mexico: “Sony has been using our bonded services for about eight years, and we are delighted to have now been awarded this significant new contract. It recognises the considerable advantages Kuehne + Nagel’s logistics and industry expertise offer a leading global high-tech / consumer electronics company such as Sony.”
