Kuehne + Nagel wins contract with United Biscuits

Kuehne + Nagel has recently been awarded a contract to manage global export logistics for United Biscuits International Sales, leading European manufacturer and marketer of biscuits and snacks. The agreement includes sea, air and export road freight services.

United Biscuits (UB), which currently ships almost 3,000 TEU’s per annum from the UK, Belgium, Spain and Israel to more than 90 markets, owns three of the five top selling biscuit brands in the UK, including McVitie’s and Carrs. It is also number two in the branded savoury snacks and crisps market. The company has been building on its success with a growth strategy which included forming a partnership with a logistics service provider with global coverage and the ability to offer a one-stop-shop solution.

Kuehne + Nagel was chosen due to the benefits it offers, including full visibility for all shipments globally, competitive prices, customs brokerage and efficient transport solutions with many additional service options, including ebooking. For instance, on the Belgium to Canada route Kuehne + Nagel provides a customised multi-modal door-to-door solution which includes railfreight.

Thierry Verven, General Manager for United Biscuits International Sales, comments “The whole implementation has been virtually seamless, which is very impressive given the size and complexity of our business. We attribute this to Kuehne + Nagel’s expertise in all our required business fields. We now look forward to developing this partnership further, based on the mutual trust and communication already established.”

Peter Ulber, Chief Executive of Kuehne + Nagel UK and Ireland adds “Following the successful implementation we are now looking at UK transport solutions for UB with a view to using railfreight as an option. This is already proving beneficial for some of our other top customers.“
