Kuehne + Nagel manages series spare parts production for REHAU

REHAU, a leading company for polymer-based solutions in construction, automotive and industry, has awarded Kuehne + Nagel a comprehensive production logistics project which encompasses the fabrication of up to 39 different variants of bumpers via gradual assembly.

According to the contract, Kuehne + Nagel provides, in addition to assembly, logistics services such as warehousing and individual packaging of spare parts. To implement the project Kuehne + Nagel first needed to transport more than 20 production machines into its facility in the Bavarian city of Straubing, Germany. After assembly the spare parts are stored in the warehouse, to be available on demand for the car manufacturers.

Kuehne + Nagel was awarded the contract due to excellent capabilities in project management and the ability to provide a custom-made IT solution for REHAU, which monitors all logistics processes and the corresponding Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). "We are delighted that REHAU entrusted us with this challenging project due to our long-standing successful collaboration. Aside from our expertise in logistics, our value-added-services together with our high degree of flexibility made the difference," said Christian Hoecherl, Branch Manager at Kuehne + Nagel in Straubing.

REHAU is also extending its collaboration with Kuehne + Nagel in other countries. Since December Kuehne + Nagel is responsible for a logistics project concerning raw materials for REHAU’s bumper production in the South African city of Uitenhage near Port Elizabeth. Materials will be warehoused and delivered for just-in-time-production. The project lays the foundation for the development of an "Automotive Supplier Centre" in which Kuehne + Nagel will offer standardised logistics services for first and second-tier automotive suppliers.
