Kuehne + Nagel manages door-to-door supply chain for NEC / Packard Bell

NEC Computers International (NEC CI), one of Europe’s leading PC and server manufacturers, has extended the existing partnership with Kuehne + Nagel in France and contracted the company to provide integrated airfreight forwarding, warehousing and European distribution services for its Packard Bell consumer brand.

Kuehne + Nagel already manages freight forwarding and distribution operations for a range of NEC CI high-tech mobility products (notebooks). The company has now been awarded the management of the global door-to-door supply chain from China to end customers across Europe for NEC’s Packard Bell brand. The product range includes notebooks, mp3 players, audio keys, etc.

The new agreement encompasses airfreight forwarding from NEC CI and Packard Bell assembly lines near Shanghai to Paris, London and Luxembourg. Warehousing activities at Kuehne + Nagel’s terminals at Lagny-le-Sec / Paris, Heathrow / London and Contern / Luxemburg for NEC’s built-to-order products include same-day cross-docking, scanning and order preparation, as well as European distribution planning and execution to end customers.

Additionally, at its enlarged French logistics facility in Lagny-le-Sec, Kuehne + Nagel also provides storage, order preparation and barcode-based pick & pack services for NEC / Packard Bell built-to-stock goods.

Kuehne + Nagel’s standardised warehouse management system and advanced track & trace technology combine to provide the customer with seamless real-time visibility to shipment movements throughout the integrated global air forwarding, storage and distribution chain.

Denis Delrieu, Supply Chain Director for NEC Computers International: “We were looking for a solution that would add value to our logistics chain and meet our high visibility requirements. Kuehne + Nagel will enable us to reduce lead times as well as inventory and supply chain costs, while at the same time being able to easily adjust to fluctuating customer demand, particularly during our September/December peak season.”

Tobias Jerschke, Managing Director for Kuehne + Nagel in France: “The expansion of our business relationship confirms NEC CI’s confidence in our capabilities to integrate processes and systems into highly streamlined yet flexible global supply chain solutions. At the same time, the contract marks a further milestone for Kuehne + Nagel France as a provider of innovative industry-specific solutions.”
