Kuehne + Nagel logistics centre in Luxembourg

Kuehne + Nagel is continually expanding its capacities in Luxembourg. Concluding the second phase of construction, the new logistics centre in Luxembourg-Contern was today inaugurated by Klaus-Michael Kuehne, President of the Board of Directors of Kuehne + Nagel International AG, in the presence of customers and business partners from the industry, trade and service sectors as well as political representatives.

Kuehne + Nagel has been present in Luxembourg since 1970 and currently employs 350 staff at four locations. In order to accommodate the dynamic business performance, a 14 million euro investment has been made to build a new logistics centre on a 47,700 sqm plot in close proximity to the airport. After completing its second phase of construction, the facility now provides a cross-docking and logistics area of 26,000 sqm and houses all forwarding and administrative departments of Kuehne + Nagel’s organisation in Luxembourg.

Kuehne + Nagel offers national and multinational customers a value-adding, integrated scope of services. In addition to the company’s traditionally strong sea- and airfreight activities, contract logistics, European distribution and supply chain management also substantially contribute to Kuehne + Nagel Luxembourg’s business success. Key players from the automotive, chemicals and high-tech industries as well as institutions of the European Commission count among the company’s customers, benefitting from industry-specific expertise, comprehensive value-added services and innovative distribution concepts.

“We are very pleased with the dynamic business performance of our organisation in Luxembourg,” Klaus-Michael Kuehne said during the opening ceremony. “Following a promising start in international forwarding 34 years ago, our service offering in Luxembourg has been continually expanded and adapted to current market requirements. The new logistics centre creates the ideal conditions for the further expansion of our activities, and it underlines the importance of our national company in Luxembourg within the global Kuehne + Nagel network.”

Clemens Abt, responsible for Kuehne + Nagel’s operations in Benelux, emphasised the facility’s locational advantages in his speech. “The centre’s ideal geographic position allows for fast and efficient distribution to all of Europe’s economic centres, making it an optimal European logistics hub for globally operating companies. Designed to provide complex logistics and supply chain management services, our logistics terminal is geared for further growth.”

The facility meets modern security requirements and is equipped with highly flexible technology. The next phase of construction later this autumn will see a substantial expansion of cross-docking capacities in order to meet the growing demand for European distribution services. Further, Kuehne + Nagel will also accommodate its European competence centre for Lead Logistics Solutions in Luxembourg-Contern.
