Kuehne + Nagel handles wine logistics for British Airways

Combining the skills and experience of two of its niche services - inflight & catering logistics and wine & spirits logistics - Kuehne + Nagel has recently been awarded a new contract with British Airways. Under the agreement Kuehne + Nagel will take care of the transport of wine sourced by British Airways, from all the major wine growing areas of the world into the UK.

This contract will ensure that customers will always have guaranteed availability of the range of fine wines provided on British Airways’ in-flight menus. The agreement specifically covers import to the UK, from Europe, South Africa, Australasia, South America and the west coast of the USA, of goods under bond for subsequent consumption on board commercial flights. However, Kuehne + Nagel will also look after regional distribution direct to British Airways’ African caterers from South Africa and the Far East caterers, who are supplied directly from Australia.

In order to provide the wide range of management information required by British Airways Kuehne + Nagel will be employing its award winning IT system KNLogin, which will also ensure complete visibility of inventory throughout the entire supply chain. The relationship will be managed through a dedicated key account team, providing one point of contact globally for all modes of transport (sea, air and overland) used in the shipment of the wine.

Peter Ulber, Chief Executive of Kuehne + Nagel UK and Ireland, comments: “We are excited by the challenge posed by this contract and look forward to a mutually productive relationship with British Airways.”

Peter Hough, British Airways’ Manager for Inflight Planning and Logistics, adds: “Kuehne + Nagel’s experience in wine and inflight catering logistics convinced us that they could offer a reliable and cost-effective service. We are trusting them to deliver our wine on time to our customers across the world.”
