Kuehne + Nagel expands activities in the niche market of wine & spirits logistics

Retrospective to October 1, 2005 Kuehne + Nagel has acquired the Danish forwarder Ziegler & Co. ApS. This takeover marks a further step in the group’s strategy to globally expand capabilities and capacities in the wine & spirits industry.

Since its foundation in 1892, Ziegler & Co. with headquarters in Copenhagen has specialised in providing high quality wine logistics services and handles shipments from the key markets in Australia, South Africa, South America, the US and Europe, predominantly by sea. With its 11 employees, the family owned company generated a turnover of DKK 58 million in 2004 and ranks among the leading providers of this specialised service in Scandinavia.

“It is our objective to play a leading role in the niche market of wine & spirits logistics, a business that requires a high degree of expert know-how,” said Reinhard Lange, Chief Operating Officer, Sea & Air Logistics, Kuehne + Nagel International AG. “The acquisition of Ziegler & Co. enables us to significantly expand our activities in Scandinavia and offer customers a premium service.”

Bent Ziegler, Chairman of Ziegler & Co., added, “Kuehne + Nagel’s global reach and sophisticated information technology combined with our specialist expertise will allow us to create additional value for our customers and to accelerate growth in this segment.”
