Kuehne + Nagel expands activities in the automotive industry

The Kuehne + Nagel logistics center in Wörth, Bavaria, is developing into the major hub for the BMW plants in Germany. In August, Kuehne + Nagel has taken over another 50,000 sqm logistics space out of which BMW locations in Saxony and Bavaria will be supplied.

Kuehne + Nagel is operating logistics centers for the Bavarian car manufacturer BMW all over Germany. Commencing August 1, 2012, the supply center in Wörth has been expanded by an additional 50,000 sqm to a total space of 95,000 sqm. From Wörth the BMW plants in Dingolfing, Landshut and Leipzig are being supplied, with Kuehne + Nagel organising the transportation services between the supply center and the BMW production sites. In addition, the logistics company is in charge of warehousing services, sequencing, the commissioning of components, reverse logistics, customs clearance and various security tasks. The supply center will also be used as a cross-dock, where goods from suppliers will be received, handled and distributed to all Bavarian BMW plants.

Since 1999, Kuehne + Nagel has been providing complex contract logistics solutions to BMW, including spare parts logistics, process management and the supply of BMW’s plant in Leipzig. Throughout Germany, Kuehne + Nagel is operating logistics centers with a total area of 230,000 sqm for BMW.

“We are happy to further expand the collaboration with BMW,“ says Jens Wollesen, member of the management board of Kuehne + Nagel (AG & Co.) KG and responsible for Contract Logistics in Central Europe. “The production supply we are enabling for BMW from Wörth is of high logistical complexity. With the new supply center for BMW we are setting a milestone for Kuehne + Nagel’s automotive logistics in terms of production delivery and sequencing.”
