Kuehne + Nagel constructs new logistics centre in Greater Istanbul

Kuehne + Nagel is expanding its capacities in the Greater Istanbul area and constructing a state-of-the-art logistics terminal in Gebze Industrial Park. The new facility will go into operation in January 2005.

Located in Turkey's dynamic economic region between Istanbul and Kocaeli, the new building is currently being constructed on a 50,000 sqm plot in Gebze Industrial Park. In close proximity to the new Sabiha Gökçen Airport and the Port of Derince on the Sea of Marmara, and just off the Istanbul-Ankara motorway (TEM), the location facilitates the provision of fast and efficient logistics services.

The new terminal is designed to provide 20,000 sqm of warehousing and handling space. Upon completion of the first phase of construction, the facility will be equipped with 19 loading docks and have an available logistics space of 8,000 sqm.

Kuehne + Nagel will offer national and international customers the entire portfolio of single-source, integrated logistics services on site, including warehousing and distribution, comprehensive value-added services and international transports. Built to up-to-date European security standards and equipped with advanced technology (warehouse management and radio frequency systems), the new facility is ideal for providing contract logistics services for high-value goods.

The investment totals around 6.5 million euros. Holger Gabrysiak, Managing Director for Kuehne + Nagel Nakliyat Ltd. Sti, comments, “With this second logistics hub in the Greater Istanbul area we are accommodating the growing demand for integrated logistics services and at the same time are underlining our commitment to the Turkish marketplace.

Kuehne + Nagel has been operating a national company in Turkey since 1986 and currently employs around 140 staff at five locations.
