Kuehne + Nagel -- now number one in the German airfreight market

Kuehne + Nagel is now the largest airfreight provider in Germany. With an airfreight-related turnover of 115 million euros in 2008, the Kuehne + Nagel Group’s German organisation moved from second to first place in the ranking.

Kuehne + Nagel’s market share in the German airfreight export market organically grew to 12.4 per cent in 2008 despite the general decline in airfreight tonnages due to the economic downturn. According to the 2008 Cass (Cargo Accounts Settlement System) ranking, Kuehne + Nagel is now number one.

Hans-Georg Brinkmann, Managing Director of the German organisation, said, “That we were able to become number one in a declining market – through organic efforts – was due to delivering the right service offerings to our demanding customers, as well as due to the close cooperation between our airfreight and sales colleagues.”

Rainer Wunn, member of the German Management Board and responsible for airfreight, added, “This success was also based on our intensive care of our existing, partly long-time customers, as well as the continued expansion of our part-charter routes for consolidated shipments with our Southern-, Brazil- and China-Connex products. The concentration on Frankfurt and Munich, Germany’s primary international departure airports, also was a contributing factor.”
