Further expansion of logistics campus in Duisburg logport

In the presence of the Board of Directors of Kuehne + Nagel International AG and numerous customers and business partners, the official opening
ceremony of the expanded logistics campus took place today. After completion of the third and fourth construction phases, Kuehne + Nagel now has 160’000 sqm of warehousing and logistics space under management in the Duisburg port area.

To meet the constantly growing demand for integrated, industry-specific logistics services and warehouse space in Duisburg, Kuehne + Nagel further expanded its logistics facilities at the logport site, which have been in operation since 2003. The new building consists of seven sections and a warehouse space of 42’000 sqm. For a major FMCG organisation it serves as distribution centre for Germany, Austria and the Benelux markets. About 11‘000 sqm will be used for both new business and reserve space for Kuehne + Nagel’s existing customers. Overall, the logistics campus in Duisburg logport accounts for about 100.000 sqm.

„Globally operating companies from trade and industry require supply chains that function seamlessly. Our integrated process competence in combination with Duisburg’s advantages as a central logistics hub for worldwide cargo flows, enable us to manage the supply chains of our customers in the best possible way”, said Karl Gernandt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kuehne + Nagel International AG in his welcome speech at the opening ceremony. “We have been one of the biggest investors in the port of Duisburg for many years, and the new investment further underlines the importance of the Duisburg location for the Kuehne + Nagel Group worldwide.”

In Duisburg, Kuehne + Nagel realised the campus concept for the first time. The concentration of highly skilled personnel and different logistics facilities  (multi user / dedicated) for different industry groups at one strategic location improves efficiency, generates synergies and supports a flexible and optimal management of peaks. The location gains additional significance through the Duisburg Intermodal Terminal. Through mullti-modal transportation - including river shipping and rail – road traffic can be relieved and the envrionmental impact reduced.

Furthermore, at its logistics facility in Duisburg-Blumenkampshof Kuehne + Nagel operates an additional 60’000 sqm warehouse and logistics space for a major international customer from the high-tech industry. The facility serves  as central distribution hub for destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
