Contract logistics expansion in Malaysia

Kuehne + Nagel is further expanding its logistics capacities in the Asia Pacific region with the commissioning of a new logistics centre in Malaysia. Dr. Urs Stemmler, Swiss Ambassador to Malaysia, and Klaus Herms, Chief Executive Officer of Kuehne + Nagel International AG, officially inaugurated the facility today, in the presence of numerous customers and business partners.

Located at Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam with closest links to the city's major infrastructure, the new facility provides 22,000 sqm of warehouse space and is equipped with the latest warehouse management systems, including RFID capability. The bonded premises feature a dedicated chemical storage area for around 4,000 pallet positions and a 2,000 sqm temperature-controlled area. Smooth access to the facility is provided by 40 hydraulic loading docks.

"The investment underlines the dynamic growth of the national company. It provides us with an ideal platform to further expand our logistics activities, an integral part of our business," commented Andy Weber,  Managing Director of Kuehne & Nagel (Asia Pacific) Management Ltd., during the opening ceremony. "Across the region, we now have a total of 320,000 sqm warehouse space under management. The strengthened capacity will enable us to meet the growing demand for sophisticated logistics in Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region."

Ideally situated in the centre of the Asia Pacific region, Malaysia has emerged as the gateway for trades between the East and the West. Consolidating consignments at this strategic location allows for cost and process efficiency with transit times substantially reduced along the supply chain.

From the new complex, Kuehne + Nagel provides local and multinational enterprises with a comprehensive range of services, including customer-specific warehousing solutions, vendor managed inventory, regional and domestic distribution, customs clearance, as well as a wide range of value-added offerings, such as just-in-time services, RF scanning, EDI services, and marine insurance.

The facility houses the national head office and the Kuala Lumpur branch office, covering all functions except for airfreight, and thus facilitating the creation of considerable synergies and the provision of integrated logistics under the same roof.
