Certification provides strong tailwind for Kuehne + Nagel in the aviation sector

Kuehne + Nagel’s subsidiary Stute Verkehrs-GmbH is the first logistics company to comply with the high requirements of the aviation norm, DIN EN 9120. By successfully obtaining certification for its dedicated Airbus logistics centre in Hamburg, the company has set new standards and strengthens its position in the aviation sector.

”The DIN EN 9120 norm – Aerospace quality management systems; requirements for stockist distributors – is rather more stringent than the ISO 9001:2000 industrial standard introduced several years ago. What makes the certification process so challenging is the way the standard is applied and interpreted. However, for any company that wants to position itself as a qualified logistics partner to the aviation industry, this accreditation is mandatory,” commented Gesa Winkelmann, STUTE’s quality manager.

Two AEROCert auditors conducted the quality audit and compiled the respective reports. These were scrutinised by AEROCert and the accreditation council, who agreed with the auditors’ recommendation to award Kuehne + Nagel its DIN EN 9120 certification. Besides the logistics concept, which is tailored to the needs of the aviation industry and the operating requirements at the Airbus plant in Hamburg, the auditors were particularly impressed by the sophisticated IT systems installed in the logistics centre, and by the operations assurance measures used.

Jens Wollesen, member of the management board of Kühne + Nagel (AG & Co.) KG, said, “The accreditation is of great significance for the Hamburgfacility as well as for the Airbus logistics centres in Bremenand Laupheim that are currently under construction. Moreover, compliance with these high quality levels also further supports the positive development of both Kuehne + Nagel and STUTE in the dynamic aviation sector.”marco.hamacher@stute.de
