Kuehne+Nagel Ireland has signed a multi-year contract with West Pharmaceuticals, a leading global manufacturer in the design and production of technologically advanced systems for the world’s top pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Furthermore, Kuehne+Nagel has invested in a custom-built facility dedicated to the management of West Pharmaceutical’s contract logistics and road logistics services. The bespoke warehouse boasts racking for 30,000 pallets and has a full temperature controlled system to accommodate the unique requirements pertaining to West Pharmaceutical’s complex operation.

“When engaging with customers, we have a collaborative method, working in partnership to derive bespoke solutions that will work for our customer’s needs”, says Pamela Quinn, Managing Director at Kuehne+Nagel Ireland. “The set-up of complex supply chain solutions for a large company like West Pharmaceuticals can often take a long time. Ireland is one of the largest exporters of pharmaceutical products globally and the commitment from Kuehne+Nagel stretches further than the dedicated West Pharmaceuticals facility, with a further nine locations in Ireland also devoted to the pharmaceutical and medtech industries.

    Kuehne+Nagel in Poland has signed a multi-year contract with Huel, a producer of nutritionally complete food. The dedicated Kuehne+Nagel distribution center located in Święcice near Warsaw will receive Huel’s products from its European manufacturing sites and provide storage, picking and packaging goods for further door-to-door distribution to twelve European countries.

    At the beginning, the facility will encompass an area of ​​over 1,000 sqm, including high pallet storage and gravity picking racks, to facilitate the process of picking and packaging orders for customers. An automated solution for capturing photos of each packed shipment generates additional value.

    "In recent years, Kuehne+Nagel has been developing e-commerce services around the world. The dynamic development of this sector on the Polish market is an opportunity to demonstrate our ability to meet logistics needs, especially for dynamically growing companies as Huel. To allow effective service in all twelve European markets, we have created a dedicated order management system, which is directly connected to Huel's e-shop.       The new facility offers multi-modal, temperature-controlled forwarding and warehousing services and is fully GxP compliant and certified. KN PharmaChain encompasses a global network of more than 220 operations, 600,000 m² of industry dedicated warehousing space and a team of specially-trained operators.

      Tobias Jerschke, Managing Director of Kuehne + Nagel BeLux comments at the occasion of the opening ceremony: “The enlarged pharma hub in Geel is an inherent part of our strategy to offer integrated logistics solutions to our customers, at the very centre of one of Europe’s strongest pharma clusters.       The Geel hub is centrally located in close proximity to the Brussels and Liège airports and with fast connections to the other 15 main EuropeanKN PharmaChain locations. The facility covers a total area of 22,000 m² (plus another 10,000 m² of extension space) and has two cold chambers to handle varying temperature requirements.

      In addition to the Geel pharma hub, Kuehne + Nagel is currently investing in a 15,000 m² airside pharma facility at the Brussels cargo airport (BruCargo), due to open in the second half of 2020.

      The distribution centre in Cartagena will handle more than 15,000 product references and will have more than 25,000 dynamic positions, besides having a three-level mezzanine with capacity for more than 40,000 storage locations designed to deliver an efficient operation according to the regional markets demands. Operations are scheduled to start in the third quarter of the year.

      To strengthen the local supply, Kuehne + Nagel has further been selected to manage a 10,000 sqm warehouse in Bogotá. The facility is destined for the storage and distribution of Decathlon´s products to the Colombian market.
