The expansion increases the global reach of its network to 12 airfreight lanes connecting major healthcare and pharmaceutical hubs across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. The Frankfurt to Atlanta route strengthens the network with dedicated weekly capacity on Kuehne+Nagel's own Boeing 747-8 freighter, Inspire.

Designed for vaccines, peptides, biologics and other temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals, Cool Corridors are dedicated transport routes that combine GDP-compliant handling with tightly controlled transfer processes to minimise Time Out of Range (ToR) throughout the shipment journey.

Traditional cold chain shipments often depend on active containers with built-in cooling systems to manage the risk of temperature excursions. Cool Corridors take a different approach by establishing GDP-compliant, temperature-controlled airfreight lanes where Kuehne+Nagel, airlines, and ground handlers follow strict protocols and handling procedures to keep healthcare shipments within defined temperature ranges.

“Healthcare customers are looking for ways to maintain product quality while improving efficiency and sustainability across their supply chains. Cool Corridors provide greater control across the shipment journey, helping protect temperature-sensitive products. With more confidence in shipment conditions, customers can use lighter passive packaging, creating opportunities to reduce logistics costs and transport emissions without compromising product integrity,” says Dorothee Becher, VP Global Air Logistics Healthcare at Kuehne+Nagel.

This development reflects Kuehne+Nagel’s strategic focus on strengthening healthcare logistics. Through close collaboration with leading airlines and ground handling partners, the company continues to expand its Cool Corridor network in response to customer demand while providing reliable, GDP-compliant end-to-end transportation.

Air Logistics,Trade

As part of this agreement, Kuehne+Nagel will utilize Hapag-Lloyd’s “Ship Green” product to reduce the carbon footprint of its ocean freight shipments.

The agreement marks an important milestone in the relationship between the two companies. For the period from April to December 2026, approximately 3,300 TEU of cargo transported on the East Asia to North Europe trade lane will be covered under the agreement. Through the use of certified waste- and residue-based biofuels (SMF), the initiative is expected to avoid around 2,979 tonnes of CO₂e emissions on a well-to-wake basis.

“We are proud to take our partnership with Kuehne+Nagel to the next level,” said Danny Smolders, Managing Director Global Sales at Hapag-Lloyd. “With Ship Green, we offer a scalable solution that enables our customers to actively reduce their Scope 3 emissions today. This agreement shows how strong partnerships can translate into tangible climate impact.”

Paolo Montrone, Head of Trade Global Sea Logistics at Kuehne+Nagel, added: “Decarbonizing shipping requires transparency, collaboration and commercially viable solutions. By having strong partnerships, making emissions data transparent, and enabling scope 3 reductions, we help customers navigate in a credible, market-based way, designed to accelerate the uptake of alternative fuels. We are pleased to extend our collaboration with Hapag-Lloyd to make this come true.”

The agreement is based on a book-and-claim chain-of-custody mechanism that allows customers to claim verified emission reductions, regardless of the physical fuel allocation to specific vessels or routes. Only emissions reductions from biofuel that has been used in Hapag-Lloyd's operated fleet is allocated to Kuehne+Nagel. This model enables scalable climate action, utilizing waste based biofuel as a bridge solution.

Both companies are committed to ambitious climate goals. Hapag-Lloyd aims to achieve net-zero fleet operations by 2045, while Kuehne+Nagel has committed to reaching net-zero emissions across the value chain by 2050. Offering sustainable logistic solutions to customers is a key lever to achieve these goals.

By working together and leveraging sustainable marine fuels and the book and claim approach, Kuehne+Nagel and Hapag-Lloyd are contributing to the shipping industry’s transition toward a more sustainable future and energy independence.

Sea Logistics,Sustainability,Renewable Energies,Trade

It serves as a new hub for less-than truckload (LTL) services for healthcare customers, complementing the existing hub in Luxembourg. With two cross-docks dedicated to healthcare goods for pan-European distribution, Kuehne+Nagel can optimise routings and reduce lead times for customers.

The Budapest hub provides highly secured and temperature-controlled environments set between 2-8°C and 15-25°C. It will particularly enhance collection and distribution services across Hungary and its neighboring countries, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Romania, Greece and Bulgaria.

Joerg Woyke, Global Head of Healthcare Road Logistics, says: “Due to the sensitive and highly regulated nature of healthcare goods, businesses were initially hesitant to shift from full-truckload (FTL) to LTL services. We have earned their trust by demonstrating that our LTL services meet the same rigorous quality standards, while offering cost-efficiency and reduced carbon emissions. As the demand for these services grows, we are strengthening our network, enabling customers to benefit from even shorter lead times.”

Developing solutions for healthcare customers is a strategic focus of Kuehne+Nagel’s Roadmap 2026. The launch of the Budapest hub is part of a broader initiative aimed at optimising the road freight network in Europe to meet the demand for high-quality and efficient transportation of healthcare shipments.

Road Logistics,Healthcare,Trade

The new, larger site is 363,000 sq. ft. in size and represents the consolidation of four warehouses from across the border into one. As global companies make investments across Mexico due to the growing trend of nearshoring, Kuehne+Nagel is establishing this site to support customers as they seek to redesign their supply chain processes.

Ideally situated in El Paso, Texas, the site will support the increased needs of customers in moving goods north and southbound over the border of Mexico and United States. The warehouse features enhanced security, modern offices, 54 dock doors, front and rear cross-dock capability, 125 truck yard spaces, as well as added vertical racked storage locations.

By consolidating four warehouses under one roof, the company will drive efficiencies for Kuehne+Nagel customers by allowing the control of all trailer traffic in one site. This move also allows the company to reduce the amount of time a truck is received and offloaded with additional dock availability. The building offers customers improved layout and cargo flow. Additionally, the site offers improved interaction for customers by housing all customer care teams in one location and offering new meeting room facilities.

“With this offering, we enhance our ability to support customers in overcoming logistics challenges presented by the global trend of nearshoring with more capacity and space as we move their valuable freight,” said John Levin, Regional Vice President for Central Area, for Kuehne+Nagel U.S. “The state-of-the art warehouse opening is a milestone for Kuehne+Nagel in North America as it reinforces our commitment to serving the cross-border as part of the company’s growth strategy. This new, larger facility in El Paso, Texas increases our warehouse footprint, improves building efficiencies, and complements our freight forwarding services with final import and export services into or out of Mexico.”

The facility will open on August 5, 2024, and brings approximately 145 job opportunities to the region. The new centre dedicated to sea and road operations meets the growing demand of transport solutions in the region supporting Kuehne+Nagel’s customers with multi-modal services to the Baltics.

The facility has an area of more than 3,300 sqm and an additional 200 sqm of office space. The cross-dock handles goods arriving in Poland via the world's largest ocean vessels, including major Far East ports, on Kuehne+Nagel's weekly service routes. It is integrated into Kuehne+Nagel's European groupage network to ensure daily distribution of goods to local and European hubs. The location of the new centre between Gdansk and Gdynia ensures efficient and fast handling of goods on the port-to-warehouse route, while the proximity to the Gdansk airport significantly speeds up the delivery of goods to the airfield.

The team located at the new centre is responsible for handling both goods that end their journey in Poland, offering the possibility of short-term storage, and those that are transhipped from sea containers and prepared for further transportation. Additional services such as pelletizing, labelling and sorting are available for cargo under customs supervision as well as domestic and EU shipments.

“The launch of the sea and road cross-dock centre is a strategic move to increase the efficiency and resilience of our customers' supply chains – both exporters and importers. The new location will enhance the logistics potential in the region, supporting Poland's trade with other countries around the world and our customers' expansion into new foreign markets. It also confirms Kuehne+Nagel's commitment to building stable and smooth supply chains, delivering services to support the growth of our partners” said Jacek Liszewski, Sea Logistics Manager at Kuehne+Nagel Poland.

(Ryszard Zmijewski - National Sea Logistics LCL Manager, Jacek Liszewski - National Sea Logistics Director, Maciej Sobek - National Road Logistics Director, Wojciech Sienicki - National Manager, Michal Kubiak - Road Logistics Terminal Handling Manager.)

Europe,Trade

For the occasion, the Managing Director of Renault Trucks France, Christophe Martin, has visited Kuehne+Nagel’s site in Villefranche sur Saône to ceremonially hand over the keys to Xavier Leger, National Road Logistics Director.

Kuehne+Nagel already piloted a number of EVs in the past years. As truck manufacturers are ramping up production, the company is committed to expand its EV footprint to reach its science-based targets. The company intends to equip 60% of its own fleet with EVs by the end of 2030.

Kuehne+Nagel France has a large domestic groupage network of 56 locations throughout the country, with many short and mid-range routes that can easily be serviced by EVs. On top, it also prepares the team for the upcoming legislation which prohibits polluting vehicles from entering French cities as of 2025, to improve air quality.

“For now, it is more efficient to use EVs for domestic routes instead of international routes because of their limited range and the lack of charging infrastructure on European highways,” says Xavier Leger. Until the required infrastructural changes happen for long distances, Kuehne+Nagel uses hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as a bridging technology to already reduce road transportation carbon emissions.

Europe,Road Logistics,Sustainability,English,Trade

Their shared ambition is to drive a sustainable future and has now resulted in Norway’s first fully traceable biofuel cargo.

Norway is the world’s leading producer of Atlantic salmon and one of the largest seafood exporters in the world. Norwegian aquaculture has developed to become an industry of significant importance in the country.

ScaleAQ is a global technology supplier to the aquaculture industry worldwide, contributing to this success. The company’s commitment to sustainability and the environment reflects in their highly-compliant standards of aquaculture equipment. As part of ScaleAQ’s goals to identify new sustainable solutions they are embarking on a new biofuel journey with Kuehne+Nagel to reduce CO2e emissions for all their sea cargo.

Kuehne+Nagel’s biofuel concept has made this next step possible for ScaleAQ by allocating an environmentally and socially corresponding next-generation biofuel made from waste-based feedstock to their cargo.

This Mass-Balance-Concept enables ScaleAQ to instantly avoid CO2e emissions from their entire supply chain. Mass balancing allows the consumption of biofuels on specific vessels and allocates fully traceable CO2e savings to specific cargo volumes. Kuehne+Nagel will work with leading carriers, energy companies and trading houses to provide ScaleAQ with this concept.

“Sustainability is at the core of what we do.
