Kuehne+Nagel has invested in a new Container Freight Station (CFS) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Scheduled for completion in June 2027, the facility will provide more than 20,000 sqm of warehouse space, helping customers manage growing trade volumes and move goods more efficiently within Cambodia and across the region.

Cambodia continues to strengthen its trade infrastructure, with Phnom Penh Autonomous Port handling around 600,000 TEUs and Sihanoukville Autonomous Port approximately 1.3 million TEUs in 2025. Complementing this growth, the new CFS is strategically located near key transport gateways, including both ports, Phnom Penh International Airport and cross-border road links to Thailand and Vietnam, facilitating cargo movements across the country and supporting regional logistics operations.

David Roussiere, Managing Director, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, Kuehne+Nagel, said: “This investment will more than triple our CFS capacity in Cambodia and strengthen our logistics capabilities in the country. With direct access to key transportation gateways and regional trade corridors, the facility will support customers in the consumer good industry as they navigate evolving supply chains and growing trade opportunities across the region.”

Designed for cargo consolidation and handling operations, the new CFS will feature a raised-floor warehouse equipped with loading doors and dock levellers. It will offer a floor loading capacity of five tonnes per square metre and is expected to be certified to ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.

The facility will also incorporate sustainability features including solar panels, skylight roofing, LED lighting, battery-operated forklifts, water infiltration systems and rainwater management infrastructure.

The investment reflects Kuehne+Nagel’s continued focus on strengthening its logistics infrastructure in high-growth markets and supporting the expansion of regional and international trade.

Kuehne+Nagel and Hapag-Lloyd are further strengthening their long-standing partnership and, for the first time, collaborating on emission-reduced ocean transport solutions. As part of this agreement, Kuehne+Nagel will utilize Hapag-Lloyd’s “Ship Green” product to reduce the carbon footprint of its ocean freight shipments.

The agreement marks an important milestone in the relationship between the two companies.  For the period from April to December 2026, approximately 3,300 TEU of cargo transported on the East Asia to North Europe trade lane will be covered under the agreement. Through the use of certified waste- and residue-based biofuels (SMF), the initiative is expected to avoid around 2,979 tonnes of CO₂e emissions on a well-to-wake basis.

The agreement is based on a book-and-claim chain-of-custody mechanism that allows customers to claim verified emission reductions, regardless of the physical fuel allocation to specific vessels or routes. Only emissions reductions from biofuel that has been used in Hapag-Lloyd's operated fleet is allocated to Kuehne+Nagel. This model enables scalable climate action, utilizing waste based biofuel as a bridge solution.

Both companies are committed to ambitious climate goals. Hapag-Lloyd aims to achieve net-zero fleet operations by 2045, while Kuehne+Nagel has committed to reaching net-zero emissions across the value chain by 2050. Offering sustainable logistic solutions to customers is a key lever to achieve these goals.

Kuehne+Nagel, a leading global logistics provider, has opened a new, built-to-suit 3,500 sqm Container Freight Station (CFS) in Mumbai. This facility reinforces its Sea Logistics capabilities in India and supports the country’s expanding trade ecosystem.

Located near the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s largest seaport, the facility provides direct access to a key maritime gateway that handles a significant share of the country’s containerised trade.

The built-to-suit facility is designed for scalable operations, enabling efficient cargo handling and value-added logistics services. It follows strict safety and security protocols, with end-to-end surveillance, and meets global standards, including CTPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism), AEO (Authorised Economic Operator), and ISO (International Organization for Standardization). Sustainability is integral to the design, featuring electric material-handling equipment and solar-powered lighting to reduce environmental impact.

Iceland’s export industries have seen significant growth with a surging tourism sector, contributing to a higher demand for imported general cargo. Also, the fish farming industry, which produced 54,800 tonnes of fish in 2024, is projected to further increase in the coming years.

From harvest to harbour

Coffee is among the most traded commodities in the world. The top three exporters, Brazil, Vietnam and Colombia, ship millions of tonnes each year. From Brazil’s vast plantations, Vietnam’s highland farms and Colombia’s mountain slopes, beans are harvested, processed, packed and prepared for export.

Vietnam is among the largest exporters of robusta coffee globally, with robusta making up almost all its output. These beans, prized for their strength and caffeine content, are shipped from the Central Highlands to ports such as Ho Chi Minh City and then on to markets around the globe. 

Getting coffee from farm to consumer requires both careful preparation and efficient transport. Beans are packed in jute bags, hermetic liners or vacuum-sealed packaging to guard against moisture and pests, then stacked on pallets and loaded into 20-foot containers, chosen for their handling efficiency. To preserve quality over long journeys, containers may include humidity-control devices, liners or ventilation systems that regulate airflow and prevent mould. While handling is not overly complex, containers must always be clean, dry and free from odours or residues to protect the beans. From trucks in Buon Ma Thuot to ports in Hamburg, every step is designed to keep flavour intact throughout the journey.

More than a sip

To support its growth ambitions in Asia, Kuehne+Nagel opens a new 2,800 sqm Container Freight Station (CFS) in Bangkok, Thailand, strategically located near Laem Chabang Port.

Laem Chabang, Thailand’s largest deep-water port, is a vital gateway for international trade, particularly on the Asia-North America and Asia-Europe routes. By expanding its Less-than-Container Load (LCL) and integrated logistics capabilities in this location, Kuehne+Nagel aims to increase efficiency and lower the environmental impact of logistics operations. With the new CFS, Kuehne+Nagel provides faster and more efficient cargo consolidation and deconsolidation while the use of electric Vehicle (EV) transportation for all LCL pick-ups across Thailand reduces carbon emissions.

This investment aligns with the Port Authority of Thailand’s (PAT) vision to transform all its ports into a smart, sustainable hub by 2030. Kuehne+Nagel renews its strategic collaboration with Acer Europe to decarbonise sea shipments by using biofuel. So far, this partnership, now in its third year, has reduced emissions by 475 tons. It highlights both companies’ commitment to environmental sustainability.  

In addition to supporting Acer’s reduction efforts with its certified Book and Claim solution for maritime biofuel, Kuehne+Nagel also provides advanced data-driven insights from seaexplorer as well as order-level emissions reporting. Acer’s SBTi targets include a commitment to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by 35% by 2030 (compared to 2020), underscoring the critical role of their transport partner to achieve that goal.

Kuehne+Nagel has secured a contract from the leading global wind turbine supplier Envision Energy to transport 190 wind turbine generators (WTG) and 67 tower sets to Saudi Arabia’s new special economic zone, NEOM.

Expected to be completed in 2025, this major project involves the specialised transport of 1.4 million freight tons of WTG. A team of over 100 project logistics professionals, vessel chartering experts, transport engineers, drivers and riggers, will work together to ensure the success of the operation. A dedicated office has been established in the city of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, to coordinate teams at NEOM’s port and the wind farm site.

NEOM is a special economic zone in the northwest of Saudi Arabia. NEOM means ‘new future’ and is intended to become a model for sustainable urban living powered entirely by renewable energy. One of the best-known NEOM projects is “The Line”, the carbon-neutral linear smart city currently under construction on the Red Sea.

When completed, the NEOM wind farm will generate 1.67 GW of renewable energy to power the plant of the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company, the world's largest facility for producing hydrogen on a large scale.

Michael Aldwell, a New Zealand national, born in 1984, began his career in 2008 with Kuehne+Nagel in Auckland, New Zealand. He has international leadership experience in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and the Americas, most recently as Head of the Northeast region of the USA in Jersey City, New Jersey. Since January 2023, he has been based in Schindellegi, Switzerland, responsible for Sea Logistics products, sales, and marketing worldwide. Michael Aldwell holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Management degree from Lincoln University, New Zealand, and is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, California.

Congestion and capacity constraints have made container visibility in recent times an absolute necessity for supply chain management. The new Container Dashboard in Kuehne+Nagel's myKN online platform harnesses data of a geo system cloud solution to allow customers to track all their containers in real-time. In addition, it reduces manual effort in identifying milestones and current deviations from the planned schedule. It not only increases accuracy and productivity by eliminating previous white spots in supply chain transparency but also enables early preventive measures for the cargo.

Multiple data sources for increased accuracy

The Container Dashboard is part of Kuehne+Nagel’s digital solution myKN. Notifications on the next milestones, such as pick-up or departure, improve the transparency of the customer's door-to-door transport chain. This includes pre- and on-carriage, demurrage and detention, as well as transshipments. A new user interface lists container flows and dwell times and highlights deviations from the initial carrier schedule. Long-term analytics allow customers to reorganise routes that consistently exceed dwell times. The underlying real-time geo system collects and includes telemetry and multiple internal and external industry data sources, such as carrier data, terminal information, route maps, and vessel trackers, to improve the accuracy of the Estimated Time of Arrival.

An enhanced customer experience

Customers can now select from two customisable standard full container load (FCL) products on the myKN platform. Backed by Kuehne+Nagel's dedicated sea freight expertise and global service network of 150,000 port connections, the new FCL Spot option and the existing FCL Pledge offer cross-modal, direct self-booking at an instant, fixed price with no cancellation fees. In addition, FCL Pledge guarantees a lead time including money-back warranty, extended cargo liability and CO2 neutrality. FCL Spot users can choose between optional solutions to immediately avoid transport emissions, such as using biofuel. For more complex shipments, both options can be tailored to a customer's specific needs.

Kuehne+Nagel has secured the equivalent volumes of a waste-based next generation biofuel to save CO2e emissions of 40,000 TEUs. In line with the company's zero emissions targets, customers can participate to neutralise the CO2e emissions from their own shipments on any trade or service worldwide.

The Kuehne+Nagel biofuel concept is based on next generation biofuels according to RED II* and allocates fully traceable contingents of biofuel to the customers’ cargo. Biofuel is currently the most effective measure to transport goods at zero CO2e emissions in container shipping. In contrast to fossil fuels, which are an exhaustible resource and release additional CO2e emissions, next generation biofuels are produced from renewable feedstocks only and have a circular carbon lifecycle aimed at re-using waste or biomass. Kuehne+Nagel guarantees its customers a 100 per cent avoidance of greenhouse gases (CO2e) in sea transport, as the biofuel's production emissions and lower density compared to conventional fuels are overcompensated.

By joining the Science Based Targets initiative, Kuehne+Nagel has set ambitious environmental goals for the transition to a zero carbon business model by reducing the company’s own carbon emissions and supporting its customers with their transition. In this effort, the company is investing in low-carbon fuels and renewable energy, as well as verified CO2 reporting. Kuehne+Nagel partnered with SailGP to reduce shipping carbon emissions by leveraging biofuels.  As Official Logistics Partner for the global sailing league, Kuehne+Nagel is responsible for transporting all SailGP’s event infrastructure to its global racing destinations in the most sustainable ways possible.

For the final events of Season 2, Kuehne+Nagel shipped SailGP’s freight over 30,000km from Cadiz to Sydney to San Francisco using biofuels to reduce the overall carbon emissions - avoiding approximately 342 tonnes of CO2.

This follows Kuehne+Nagel using HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) - a low carbon alternative to diesel made from recycled organic waste - for the 4,000km transport across mainland Europe for the previous event at Aarhus, St Tropez and then to Cádiz. This reduced emissions by 90%.

The shared goal to minimise the environmental impact of logistics transport sees Kuehne+Nagel and SailGP partner to reduce the carbon footprint of the sail racing league's transport.

Kuehne+Nagel is to organise the heavy-lift logistics and module transportation for the hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) biofuels project for Shell plc in the Netherlands. The project will be one of the largest commercial production facilities in Europe to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel made from waste.  

The biofuels facility in Rotterdam is expected to start production in 2024. It will produce low-carbon fuels such as renewable diesel from waste in form of used cooking oil, waste animal fat and other industrial and agricultural residual products.

Shell’s HEFA biofuels project will be supported by Renewable Energy Logistics, the new solution by Kuehne+Nagel Project Logistics, tailored to the specific logistics needs of the renewable energy industry worldwide. It is designed to provide safe and proper transportation of all the components and machinery required to set up and maintain alternative energy projects.

Kuehne+Nagel, one of the world's leading logistics companies, recently completed a mega operation for the construction of a natural gas treatment plant in the Azulão field, in Amazonas, which started the operations last month. In the pioneer project in Brazil belonging to Eneva, the fuel will be liquefied to be transported daily to the Jaguatirica Thermoelectric Power Plant, in Boa Vista, where it will be transformed into energy to supply more than half of the state of Roraima.

The operation, which has just received its operating license, will directly benefit local communities and the State. Among royalties and other taxes, the expectation is of more than R$ 720 million in collection for the entire operation period. The generated energy will supply Roraima, the only state in the country still disconnected from the National Interconnected System (SIN) of energy transmission, which therefore depends on local generation.

The operation included multimodal transport, by ferry and trucks, on routes of more than 500km across the north of the country. And for the construction of the installation, the company carried out the storage and transport of more than 10 thousand tons of equipment, with the collaboration of a multidisciplinary team from Kuehne+Nagel. To receive the equipment that made the construction of the project possible, the company used a warehouse with almost 5 thousand m² in Iranduba, AM.

“The project was a success, with 100% of the equipment delivered without damage. In order to transport the large amount of complex machinery with very specific characteristics, we developed an exclusive and made-to-measure structure, which made it possible to remove the “Cryoboxes” (modular natural gas liquefaction units) quickly and safely. This is one of the characteristics that we bring to Kuehne+Nagel, the ability to improvise and be flexible to meet the demands of our customers”, explains Gabriel Zorzi, director of maritime transport and project logistics for the company in Brazil.

Azulão will supply 70% of Roraima's energy consumption

The gas produced in Azulão will be liquefied in the treatment plant for storage and transported by cryogenic trucks, which will leave daily for Boa Vista, capital of Roraima. There, the energy generated by natural gas will be connected to the electrical transmission grid. The thermoelectric plant will add 141 MW to the electrical system, which is equivalent to more than half of the state's consumption.

Kuehne+Nagel is launching the Seaexplorer disruption indicator to measure the efficiency of the world container shipping networks. The indicator shows the cumulative TEU* waiting time in days in the ports of Prince Rupert, Vancouver/Seattle, Oakland, Los Angeles/Long Beach, New York, Savannah, Hong Kong, Shanghai/Ningbo as well as Rotterdam/Antwerp.

An example demonstrates how the indicator is determined: one vessel with 10,000 TEU capacity waiting 12 days to enter a port equals 120,000 TEU waiting days. In addition, another vessel with 5,000 TEU waiting 10 days to enter the same port equals 50,000 TEU waiting days. The total TEU waiting time is 170,000 TEU waiting days.

The disruption indicator provides insights as well as advanced analytics and trends on the current situation impacting global trade. Currently, the indicator reflects a waiting time and scale of 11.6 million TEU days – a persistently high level. In these nine specific ports, normal would be less than one million TEU waiting days. At present, roughly 80% of the disruption is associated with North American ports.

The indicator is an extension of the visibility that Kuehne+Nagel’s acclaimed Seaexplorer provides on global sea freight disruptions. According to the latest Seaexplorer data, 612 container vessels are currently at anchor or drifting in front of major global ports.

The Very Group, which operates one of the UK’s largest online retailers Very.co.uk, is now compensating all carbon emissions from its inbound logistics via Kuehne+Nagel after joining the global transport and logistics company’s Net Zero Carbon programme.

The first phase began earlier this year, with The Very Group’s sea freight volume being offset. By the end of June, 1,300 tonnes of CO2 – the equivalent to approximately 3,000 barrels of oil being burned – had already been offset.

With the remaining 10,000 containers that The Very Group transports annually via a mix of rail, air and road now also being neutralised, the business has taken an important step closer to its ambition to be net zero for carbon across its operations and supply chain by 2040.

As part of Kuehne+Nagel’s Net Zero Carbon programme, emissions that cannot be reduced to zero by supply chain optimisation are compesated by investing in certified nature-based projects aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the SDGs).

As a pioneer in sustainable logistics, Kuehne+Nagel launched its comprehensive Net Zero Carbon Programme to encourage visibility, reduction and offsetting of carbon emissions. Since 2020, the company is CO2 neutral for its own, direct CO2 emissions. 

The Very Group has also committed to the British Retail Consortium’s Roadmap to Net Zero, meaning the retailer will bring its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2040.

Kuehne+Nagel is to organise the offshore project logistics for the power-to-methanol part of the pilot phase of the Haru Oni project in Chile for Siemens Energy. The project is a collaboration between Siemens Energy (Germany), Porsche (Germany) and Highly Innovate Fuels or HIF (Chile). It will be the world’s first integrated commercial plant for producing climate-neutral fuel from wind and water with the purpose of decarbonising the transport sector.

During the pilot phase, the Haru Oni project aims to produce 130,000 liters of e-fuels by 2022. In two proceeding phases, the capacity is planned to be increased to around 55 million litres of e-fuels per year by 2024 and to around 550 million litres of e-fuels by 2026. The project was launched on September 10, 2021 with a ground breaking ceremony joined by the Chilean Energy Minister.

By the end of this year, the main wind turbine components – a nacelle, blades and tower sections – are to be transported from multiple ports in China and delivered in one lot as part charter to Punta Arenas, Chile. In addition, there will be various container and flat-rack transports from Europe. The longest components are the three blades just over 65m in the length and the heaviest part is the nacelle at nearly 77 tons.

Torsten Dubsky, project director for Haru Oni at Siemens Energy, states: “Renewable energy will no longer be produced only where it is needed, but where natural resources like wind and sun are available on a massive scale. So new supply chains are going to arise all over the world to carry renewable energy from one region to another. To guarantee these infrastructures, experienced project logistics support is needed and we are excited that Kuehne+Nagel is partnering with us for the Haru Oni Pilot Project.”

Kuehne+Nagel Russia has successfully completed a challenging project involving the transport of 159 wind turbine blades. The blades were transported on the Volga and Don rivers from Ulyanovsk to Ust-Donetsk and Rostov-on-Don.

Vestas, a Danish company and leading global manufacturer, seller, installer and service provider of wind power systems, produced the blades at the Ulyanovsk manufacturing facilities, together with its Russian partners (Rusnano). The blades were transported in six voyages of river pontoon barges between April and August 2020. Kuehne+Nagel ensured secure and on-time delivery of the oversized and sensitive technical equipment, despite various restrictions and impediments caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

For decades, Kuehne+Nagel has conducted efficient and environmentally friendly shipping on Europe’s inland waterways. As part of its comprehensive logistics solutions, the company is using this mode of transport, which results in lower costs and reduced risk of damage, for both regular container loads and demanding projects involving oversized and heavy-weight freight.

Kuehne+Nagel has partnered with Colombian agricultural supplier Verdeex S.A. to deliver fresh avocados of the Hass variety to consumers in Dubai.

These Hass avocados grow in the department of Antioquia, by expert farmers' hands, and are carefully transported by Kuehne+Nagel’s Reefer Logistics and KN FreshChain teams, who supervise and monitor the fruits 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to guarantee that they arrive in perfect condition at the consumers’ tables. To maintain the freshness and to extend the self-live, avocados are transported in cold chain containers, first via road, then via sea freight.

Colombia has been a historical producer of avocado. In 2019, exports of the Hass variety grew rapidly by almost 40%, according to the Colombian National Administrative Department of Statistics. Verdeex, based in Rionegro in the heart of the Antioquia cropping region, is one of the main suppliers of Colombian avocados.
