Within this environment, medication handling remains a critical and highly regulated function. Medications must be prepared accurately and safely, with full compliance to labelling, traceability and expiry requirements. At the same time, operational steps such as sorting bulk medication, repacking into single-use formats, labelling, barcoding and quality checks are labour-intensive, placing pressure on space, manpower and time within healthcare institutions.

Through ongoing engagement with healthcare partners, it became clear that these operational demands were increasingly difficult to manage within healthcare institutions, particularly as patient volumes continued to rise and workforce pressures persisted.

Supporting medication workflows beyond hospital settings
As healthcare providers looked for ways to manage these operational demands while maintaining the required quality, safety and regulatory standards, there was a need for additional capacity to support medication preparation.

To address this need, Kuehne+Nagel expanded its existing healthcare logistics operations in Singapore to support medication repackaging and labelling activities within a controlled environment outside healthcare institutions. The solution builds on healthcare logistics operations that have supported medication workflows in Singapore for many years, as well as established healthcare and pharmaceutical operations supported by GMP-compliant facilities, specialised infrastructure and trained personnel, including qualified pharmacists and dedicated quality teams.

All repackaging and labelling activities are carried out in licensed, clean and controlled premises under pharmacist supervision. Processes are governed by robust quality systems that support accurate labelling, expiry management and full traceability, helping to maintain patient safety and regulatory compliance.

Reducing operational burden to protect clinical time
Today, these healthcare logistics operations are conducted at scale, with more than 20 dedicated production stations supporting medication packaging activities across both ambient (15°C to 25°C) and cold chain (2°C to 8°C) conditions. This dedicated capacity helps reduce the operational burden on healthcare facilities, where such activities are typically carried out by small pharmacy teams alongside their clinical responsibilities.

Preparing medications in unit dose repackaging formats can support a range of care delivery models. While the current focus is on supporting hospital operations, the approach may also offer opportunities to support community-based and home-centred care models in the future, where appropriate and subject to relevant requirements and quality controls.

For healthcare providers, the impact is practical. Medication packaging outside of their healthcare institutions reduce pressure on limited onsite space, provides access to compliant infrastructure with built-in resilience, and allows capacity to be adjusted in line with changing demand without significant additional investment. Most importantly, it helps protect the time of pharmacists, nurses and clinicians, allowing them to focus on patient care and clinical responsibilities.

Kuehne+Nagel is advancing its digital capabilities in Contract Logistics through the evolution of KN SwiftLOG, its warehouse management system, into a cloud-native platform with agentic AI capabilities. 

Spanning more than 1,000 sites in close to 100 countries, the deployment represents one of the most extensive transformations of warehouse operations in the logistics industry. 

To support this transformation, the platform is built on Blue Yonder’s Warehouse Management Solution, part of the company’s Cognitive Solutions. This brings KN SwiftLOG into a unified, cloud-based environment while continuing as Kuehne+Nagel’s established warehouse management system. 

The global roll-out began in April 2026 and is being implemented in phases to ensure continuity of service. As deployment progresses, it enables scaling across operations and helps manage increasing supply chain complexity and evolving customer requirements.

Moving to a single cloud-based platform supports more standardised processes across sites, helping to align operations for customers served in multiple countries. The first customer deployment is planned to go live in Asia in July 2026.

Kuehne+Nagel and Mondadori Group inaugurated a new 40,000 sqm fulfilment centre in San Giorgio Bigarello, in the province of Mantova. The facility is Italy’s largest logistics hub dedicated to educational publishing, supporting the efficient distribution of learning materials to schools, educators and students across the country.

Developed and operated by Kuehne+Nagel, the new fulfilment centre brings together activities previously managed across three locations. The hub also serves Mondadori Group’s educational and retail publishing business, including bookstores, e-commerce and direct-to-consumer channels. It reflects the growing importance of all-in-one logistics solutions to support the evolution of the publishing market.

By centralising operations, increasing inventory visibility and omnichannel capabilities, the new facility helps Mondadori Group respond more efficiently to changing customer expectations while ensuring reliable distribution of educational materials across Italy. The highly seasonal nature of educational publishing demands precise planning and execution to ensure learning materials reach schools when they are needed.

The facility became fully operational in June 2026, following a phased transition, ensuring uninterrupted service throughout the implementation process. The hub also leverages Kuehne+Nagel’s expertise in managing complex distribution networks and its ongoing investments in technology, automation and innovation.

Kuehne+Nagel has expanded its healthcare logistics footprint in India with the opening of a new temperature-controlled airfreight cross dock facility in Hyderabad. The investment strengthens the company’s ability to support the safe, compliant and reliable movement of healthcare products, in response to growing demand for specialised logistics solutions for pharmaceutical and medical shipments.

Hyderabad is a major centre for pharmaceutical manufacturing, contributing over 40 per cent of India’s active pharma ingredients and vaccine production. Strategically located within this ecosystem, Kuehne+Nagel’s new facility supports efficient handling and distribution while improving proximity to key customers and manufacturing sites.

The 248 sqm facility operates across dedicated temperature zones, including +2°C to +8°C and +15°C to +25°C. These controlled environments are designed to safeguard product integrity across a wide range of healthcare shipments. The site complies with Kuehne+Nagel’s global HealthChain quality standard, ensuring consistent GxP compliance across healthcare supply chains. With the addition of Hyderabad, Kuehne+Nagel now operates two HealthChain-certified facilities in India, following the launch of its Bengaluru Cool Zone facility in December 2025.

Kuehne+Nagel and Casaideas have announced an expanded partnership in Chile, aimed at enhancing logistics capabilities supporting both e-commerce fulfilment and retail store replenishment for the national design brand.

The agreement resulted in the construction of a dedicated distribution centre for Casaideas, operated by Kuehne+Nagel. Since becoming operational in 2025, the new centre has already delivered strong performance, handling 34.8 million inbound units and distributing 24.7 million products to more than 40 Casaideas stores nationwide, with the final quarter of 2025 accounting for 33% of the annual total volume. E-commerce operations processed 953,000 units in 2025, fulfilling close to 190,000 customer orders.

Kuehne+Nagel is investing in five new fulfilment centres, adding 100,000 sqm of capacity, located in Gurgaon, Kolkata, Nagpur, Mumbai and Rajpura. This expansion increased the company’s total fulfilment centre footprint in India to nearly 500,000 sqm and will generate more than 1,500 new jobs nationwide, contributing to the growth of the local economy.

India is projected to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2030, with strong growth across high-tech, automotive, consumer goods, and healthcare sectors. Rising demand in these industries is driving the need for scalable, high-performance logistics infrastructure.

The new fulfilment centres are equipped with automation technologies, including telescopic conveyors and high-performance sorting systems, enabling a 75% increase in peak order handling capacity.

The locations span tier-1 cities Mumbai and Kolkata, tier-2 hubs Gurgaon and Nagpur, and Rajpura in tier-3 — aligned with India’s multi-city industrial growth. Gurgaon and Nagpur continue to evolve as growth hubs for multiple industries, while Rajpura, is gaining traction in manufacturing and distribution.

Each item, such as chandeliers, accessories, luxury dinnerware, and even custom works of art, passes through Kuehne+Nagel’s fulfilment centre in Doesburg, the Netherlands. There, every piece is carefully inspected. This is extremely important to us, because our customers expect the best of the best,” says Lori. “Of course, something can always break or go wrong during transport, so we want to know as soon as possible. We operate out of the United States so we need critical eyes in Europe.” Once quality control is complete, Kuehne+Nagel sorts products according to the project brief. “For example, per room, so that we can quickly transport it to the right place on location,” she explains. “In this way, both Dahlgren Duck and Kuehne+Nagel own the logistics for our customers.”

Lori speaks highly of the team at Kuehne+Nagel. “Jon is phenomenal,” she says with a laugh. “He identifies quality problems, thinks with us, and prevents mistakes. He once discovered damaged works of art before they were shipped.” Yoni, another Kuehne+Nagel colleague, also plays a key role. “We can always reach out to her if we have a challenge.” This year alone, Lori has met the Kuehne+Nagel team in Europe on three occasions. “It feels like family,” she says. “We work together from the same level of commitment and professionalism. Expanding the partnership

The partnership with Kuehne+Nagel now extends beyond the Netherlands. “We also have logistical relationships in Dubai for storage. And who knows, more hubs may follow,” says Smith. “This is the right time, because the foundation is in place.” Dahlgren Duck is seeing growing demand from markets such as the UK, Spain, France, Italy, and the Middle East. “Both teams are excited about what’s next. We share the same values and focus on delivering exceptional service.”

Kuehne+Nagel and the LEGO Group are expanding their long-standing partnership with the opening of a new Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in Dong Nai, Vietnam. The centre will serve as a distribution hub for products manufactured at LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam, the LEGO Group’s newest factory in Ho Chi Minh City which opened earlier this year.

At the time of its opening, the RDC will supply markets including Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, with other markets including India, Indonesia and more planned to come in 2026. Kuehne+Nagel will manage end-to-end logistics operations for the RDC, including transport from the LEGO Group’s Vietnam factory and Mainland China, customs clearance, bonded warehousing, sea freight, and delivery to Local Distribution Centres (LDCs) throughout the region.

At the time of opening, the facility will cover 10,200 sqm and be equipped with bonded storage, specialised packing and value-added services. Once fully complete and operational in 2026, it will process more than 150 containers per week, have capacity for 33,000 pallets, and span 16,360 sqm, providing sufficient capacity for growth.

The Dong Nai RDC is LEED Gold-certified and features solar panels and smart energy meters to optimise energy consumption and reduce emissions. The RDC is the LEGO Group’s fifth worldwide and second in Asia Pacific, joining an existing centre in Shanghai, China. It follows the opening of a new RDC in Tessenderlo, Belgium, last year, which is also operated by Kuehne+Nagel and serves the European customers.

Kuehne+Nagel has opened a new distribution centre for Sysmex Europe SE and Sysmex Deutschland GmbH, dedicated to diagnostic instruments and reagents. As part of its growth strategy, Kuehne+Nagel is further expanding its commitment to healthcare contract logistics.

With the 10,000 m² healthcare distribution centre in Hamburg, Kuehne+Nagel provides Sysmex with a broad range of services. These include direct-to-customer deliveries in parts of Europe, supply across the entire EMEA region, and same-day dispatch of urgent air freight export orders. The medical products are stored across three temperature zones. A key feature is the device configuration centre, which includes specialised rooms for configuring, pre-assembling, testing, and dispatching customised solutions.

The growing medical technology market demands high standards of quality, safety, and flexibility in logistics. Kuehne+Nagel’s HealthChain quality label ensures that all regulatory, industry-specific, and customer-specific standards are met with the highest quality. Kuehne+Nagel collaborates with MTU Maintenance Lease Services (MLS) on a new fulfilment centre in Zhuhai, China, to support the coordination of aero engine parts supply. This strategic facility strengthens the long-standing partnership between the two companies and is key to enhancing MLS’ global logistics operations.  

MLS specialises in the leasing and asset management of commercial aero engines and is a subsidiary of MTU Aero Engines, which is a globally recognised high-tech expert in the development, production, and maintenance of engines and engine components.

The MLS fulfilment centre is strategically located in Zhuhai, within the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and supports its material supply in the region. The fulfilment centre complements MLS’ existing parts hubs in the Netherlands and the United States, forming a globally integrated logistics network that ensures fast and reliable access to critical components.

Operated by Kuehne+Nagel, the facility is built to the highest standards of speed, compliance, and reliability. It features bonded storage and offers same-day or 24-hour despatch, 365 days a year, ensuring uninterrupted support for urgent line-replaceable-unit (LRU) requirements and time-critical operations, including aircraft-on-ground (AOG) situations.

Kuehne+Nagel expands its collaboration with ABB in Chile, a global leader in electrification and automation technologies. The new agreement covers solutions for Contract Logistics, including last-mile transportation and fulfilment operations.

With a global partnership spanning over 30 years, ABB and Kuehne+Nagel have also collaborated in Chile for more than a decade, particularly in air logistics, supporting ABB’s divisions with import services from Europe and the U.S.

Under the new agreement, Kuehne+Nagel supports ABB with logistics services across its three business units: Electrification, Motion, and Process Automation. A cross-docking service has also been implemented in coordination with the air logistics team, enabling efficient process integration.

Kuehne+Nagel’s multi-customer distribution center is located in Santiago. The modern facility, inaugurated in 2024, meets the highest (AAA) logistics standards, including state-of-the-art security systems. Approximately 300 orders are processed monthly for over 120 recipients throughout Chile.

Sustainability is a key pillar of this partnership. Both companies are driving initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of their joint operations. Kuehne+Nagel has deployed an electric fleet dedicated to ABB’s operations, significantly reducing the carbon footprint. The companies aim for a 15% reduction in energy consumption through ongoing energy efficiency projects, including the planned installation of photovoltaic panels in 2026. A waste management plan aims for a 90% reduction in landfill-bound waste, with the medium-term goal of achieving zero-waste operations.

Kuehne+Nagel strengthens its collaboration with Airbus through the renewal of an agreement for the logistics of production and storage sites across Spain. In addition, the partnership expands for the first time to helicopter maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities.

The operations cover in-plant logistics, inter-site transport services, warehouse-to-line deliveries, supply fulfilment centre operations, and spare parts management. Over 900 employees of Kuehne+Nagel are operating from 16 sites distributed across Albacete, Cádiz, Madrid, Sevilla, Toledo, and Zaragoza.

Kuehne+Nagel has invested in technologies enhancing operational efficiency and traceability, starting with a proprietary warehouse management system, robotics, a small-part element control system using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), and IoT (Internet of Things) applications. Sustainability is also a key focus, with initiatives in place to reduce cardboard and plastic usage across the supply chain.

Kuehne+Nagel celebrates a significant milestone in its presence in Ecuador with the opening of a state-of-the-art logistics centre in Tababela, Quito. The new facility includes 2,280 sqm of refrigerated warehouses, 6,445 sqm of manoeuvring yard, 25 docks and 795 sqm of office space.

Since its founding in Quito in 1995, with just five employees dedicated to air logistics, Kuehne+Nagel Ecuador has experienced continuous growth. The acquisition of Master Transport in 2013 and Panatlantic in 2018 further strengthened its leadership in the perishable sector. Today, thanks to its development and expanded service offerings, the company ranks as one of the most comprehensive and versatile organisations in the country for international trade and supply chain management.

Kuehne+Nagel and Orange, a leading worldwide telecommunications operator, extend their partnership another three years for e-commerce operations of communication hardware in France, Poland and in the African markets.

Kuehne+Nagel successfully supports Orange in a growing market for mobile telephony and Internet access. Since 2004, the logistics activities in a dedicated fulfilment centre in the Paris area have grown continuously. The highly secured facility of 22,119 sqm employs 150 people. Kuehne+Nagel oversees storage, order fulfilment, shipping, returns, and after-sales service for Orange’s mobile phones, accessories, and internet devices.

In recent years, new technologies have been used to minimise the environmental impact and optimise resources, e.g. through innovative packaging solutions that ensure customised cartons, optimised volume and less empty space.

Kuehne+Nagel and Changan Automobile, a leading Chinese car manufacturer, signed a memorandum of understanding to develop aftermarket logistics for electric vehicle models across the European market, including the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and France.

The Chinese brand benefits from Kuehne+Nagel's expertise in spare part logistics, especially through its automotive campus located in Helmond, the Netherlands, a 22,000 sqm multi-customer site, strategically located for distribution in Europe.

The partnership also addresses other aspects of electric vehicles such as battery logistics and end-of-life solutions.

Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions Asia Pacific has selected Kuehne+Nagel to manage its Central Logistics Center in Thailand. This 3,000sqm assembly and packaging facility, strategically located in the Si Racha free zone district is situated close to the Schaeffler manufacturing plant in Chonburi. This Central Logistics Center will handle operational activities including kitting, goods receiving, and shipping. It is designed to optimise logistics processes and increase delivery capacity, ensuring consistently high delivery service levels for the customers of Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions division across Asia Pacific.

As part of its Roadmap 2026, Kuehne+Nagel identifies Asia as a key growth area, with Thailand playing an important role. A recent example is the new distribution centre in the Suvarnabhumi Airport free trade zone in Bangkok, Thailand.

Air up, a pioneer in innovative drinking systems and Kuehne+Nagel BeNeLux broaden their partnership to cover the entire supply chain of scent pods from 2025.

Kuehne+Nagel’s fulfilment centre in Veghel, the Netherlands, has been handling air up´s e-commerce fulfilment activities since 2022 for the Dutch and Belgian markets. Since October 2024, Kuehne+Nagel has also been handling the packing of the scent pods, using paper packaging instead of plastic. Under the new agreement, the distribution services from Veghel will now include all European Union countries, as well as Switzerland and Norway.

As of 2025, the facility will also cover the production of the scent pods. All activities span an area of 7.000 sqm. By regrouping and consolidating the scent pods supply chain in the Netherlands to one location, both partners expect to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in line with their commitment to sustainability.

Scent pods flavour drinking water through retro nasal olfaction, enabling users to enjoy flavoured water without sugar or artificial ingredients.

The logistics operations are executed from the fulfilment centre of Mejorada del Campo (Madrid). This activity serves a network of 37 repair centres across Spain. Orders are packed in recycled materials such as cardboard, tape, and cushioning items, in alignment with Salvador Caetano’s sustainability objectives.

The LEGO Group, the world’s largest toy company, expands its partnership with Kuehne+Nagel by opening a new distribution centre in Truganina, located in Australia’s southeastern state of Victoria.

Spanning 26,500 square meters and equipped with a storage capacity of 26,000 pallets, the new distribution centre is designed to serve LEGO’s customers for both B2C and B2B across Australia and New Zealand. The facility leverages cutting-edge automation to optimise operational processes while adhering to sustainability. Its automation is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring state-of-the-art carton-reducing technology to minimise packaging and waste.

The facility also integrates a dual 100kW solar panel system to reduce electricity consumption and contribute excess power back to the grid. Water saving technologies support on-site amenities and irrigation for the surrounding plants and trees. The distribution centre has achieved a 5-star Green Star Rating, which signifies 'Australian excellence' in sustainable building practices according to the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) standards.

Kuehne+Nagel has officially opened its new adidas distribution centre in Mantova, Northern Italy. The logistics hub combines growth opportunities, next-level digitalisation and sustainability. With this €350 million financial commitment, the company’s single largest investment to date, Kuehne+Nagel demonstrates its commitment to more efficient and environmentally friendly logistics solutions. Additionally, more than 700 new jobs will be created, with a focus on technical and digital skills. 

The distribution centre will service a geographical range including 19 countries in Southern and Eastern Europe. The logistics hub uses state-of-the-art, digital technologies that transform contract logistics management, making it faster, more accurate and environmentally friendly. More than 700 robots and further automation will support every step of the logistics process, from inventory tracking to product distribution. 

The 130,000 sqm area is equipped with 20 km of conveyor belts and a shuttle system handling 25 storage lanes with a capacity of 440,000 units. Thanks to these systems, the logistics hub can process up to 500,000 shipments per day in support of every retail channel – from single e-commerce parcels to bulk orders for large retailers.

Real-time monitoring allows for greatly improved efficiency and reduction in error margins, optimising resources and also reducing delivery times. Through the integration of data and predictive algorithms, Kuehne+Nagel can anticipate maximum demand moments and adapt workflows. 

Sustainability is another fundamental pillar of the adidas distribution centre, with the aim of reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The centre is LEED Gold certified and uses only renewable energy. It is equipped with an LED lighting system, daylight and motion sensors and a photovoltaic system capable of generating 13,555 MWh per year. The environmental impact is constantly monitored, and an efficient waste reduction programme is in place, using sustainable materials for packaging and minimising plastics. 

Mantova was selected as the location for this ambitious project due to its strategic position with excellent road and rail connections. This facilitates integration with last-mile suppliers and reduces operating costs and CO2 emissions. Additionally, the site selection has strong support from the local community. 

The grand opening ceremony, held today, is being attended by representatives of adidas and Kuehne+Nagel, the Italian Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, Alessandro Beduschi, Regional Councillor, and the Mayor of Mantova, Mattia Palazzi. At the event, these representatives emphasise the strategic importance of the project for the region and the global logistics industry. 

Today, Kuehne+Nagel, one of the world’s leading logistics companies, announced the opening of a new, temperature-controlled fulfilment centre for its partner, Medtronic. The global healthcare technology company develops, manufactures, and sells medical devices and therapies to treat complex medical conditions.

At the 25,000 sqm site, located in Milton, Ontario (50 km from Toronto), Kuehne+Nagel supports Medtronic by distributing its products to hospitals and institutions. Medtronic also operates a service and repair centre within the facility, as well as a test and preventative maintenance centre for their medical equipment.

This partnership combines the technical, operational, and engineering expertise of Kuehne+Nagel and Medtronic, to meet the increasing demand for healthcare logistics and serving the urgent needs of patients and the healthcare community.

Innovation at the heart of what we do

How can we - based on the needs we see among our customers - continue to innovate and provide even more security in, for example, car parks and warehouses? James and his team deal with that question every day. “About twenty-five years ago, I was marketing manager for a construction company. There I discovered that in large industrial environments, there was a great need for column protection. So, we came up with our first product: a bright yellow column protector, which is energy-absorbing. Then we thought: can we also make a variant for pallet protection? Like that, we continued to innovate. Always based on the customer's needs and the idea of finding simple solutions.”

Thinking along

After working with a transport company for a few years in Europe, Sentry started looking for a new partner for fulfillment and transport. They found that in Kuehne+Nagel. “What I like about Kuehne+Nagel is that they are willing to think along with us. We work from the United States, there is a time difference, and despite that time challenge we like to keep a grip by means of reports. We had good conversations about that. There are plenty of - especially large - companies that say: this is how we do it and not otherwise. But at Kuehne+Nagel, they really listen to you and see how they can help you. That personal touch appeals enormously.” Sentry has since built up a stable market share in Europe, with deliveries in Germany and France, among others. And steps are now being taken towards Eastern Europe. To best serve all of these customers, partners in Europe are also active to help Sentry in areas such as marketing and customer contact.

According to James, Sentry and Kuehne+Nagel share the same values: “If we agree something with a customer, we want it to be there on time. Timing is important to us and it is important to Kuehne+Nagel as well. We also share a high sense of responsibility. We think efficient and sustainable working is important. If you share the same values as collaborating companies, then you can build a long-term partnership.” What the Sentry owner also appreciates is that, as a relatively small customer, they are treated seriously. “To be fair, we found the switch to Kuehne+Nagel quite exciting, but the great thing is that the personal touch has remained. Kuehne+Nagel is a big party, but they pay attention to all their customers. We can always ask questions, they think along with us and they are well organised”.

Future

How does James see the future? “We have more competition in Europe than in the US. In the beginning, we were not conspicuous enough in the European market; we have caught up with that now, with good partners there. We can count on Kuehne+Nagel and they can count on us. I am confident that we will get a bigger share of the European market.”

Today, Kuehne+Nagel, a global logistics company, announced it is establishing a new logistics platform for the fast-growing French fashion brand, Sézane. This new and flexible operation in Piscataway, New Jersey, will enable Sézane, a long-standing customer of Kuehne+Nagel in France, to offer its end customers an even better service.  

Sézane was founded in Paris in 2013 and is now one of the fastest-growing French fashion brands, mainly using e-commerce channels. With Kuehne+Nagel’s support in the U.S., the brand can now handle much faster returns and inventories while continuing to expand its market share in the country through e-commerce and its own stores.

• The takeover of an existing, 250,000 sq. ft. fulfillment facility near Toronto, Ontario, Canada for a medical device company; site went live May 2024, making this the tenth healthcare site in Canada. 
• Conversion of 140,000 sq. ft. into a pharmaceutical-grade space near Mexico City at our Master Distribution Center, including ISO Class 9 room and automation for medical device and pharmaceutical distribution.

The logistics service provider Kuehne+Nagel has opened a new contract logistics centre in Rhineland-Palatinate. With around 55,000 square metres of logistics space, the company ensures the worldwide supply of spare parts for the Wacker Neuson Group from Mülheim-Kärlich. The leading manufacturer of light and compact equipment has been trusting in Kuehne+Nagel’s spare parts logistics solutions for nine years.

The new distribution centre will create 120 jobs. Employees will be supported in their work by ‘goods-to-person’ assistants: A fleet of over 30 robots will take over the storage and retrieval as well as the transport of the containers and bring the items from the shelves directly to the employees at the picking stations. Thanks to sensors, cameras and algorithms, the autonomous mobile robots are able to work in three dimensions and move independently in dynamic environments by recognising obstacles and adapting their route automatically. 

Over 100,000 different spare parts components for light and compact equipment are stocked and dispatched in this way. The equipment and processes at the site allow the flexible expansion of activities in order to access further volume potential in spare parts distribution in the coming years.

In 2012, the LEGO Group and Kuehne+Nagel opened an e-commerce platform and warehouse management system, focused on online sales via LEGO.com, in our country. Geel was chosen as the location at the time. To capitalise on long-term growth in Europe, it was time for the next step in the partnership. The distribution centre is the second in the company’s European distribution network, joining an existing centre in Jirny, Czech Republic 

The investment is also part of a broader capacity expansion strategy globally for the LEGO Group. The LEGO Group has also invested more than US $1B in two new state-of-the-art factories in Binh Duong, Vietnam and Virginia, U.S., on track to open in 2025 and 2027 respectively.

Shorter delivery times & more sustainable transport 

A lot of elements were considered when deciding on the location, including the logistical possibilities. The choice of Tessenderlo allows the LEGO Group to use the European railway network. The LEGO sets will be delivered by train from the LEGO factories in Nyíregyháza, Hungary and Kladno, Czech Republic. A total of 2,000 different types of LEGO sets will be stored at the location in Tessenderlo from where 5,500 trucks depart annually. 

The opening of the distribution centre in Tessenderlo ensures that B2B customers, as well as the company's own LEGO Brand Retail shops, will receive their deliveries faster with a reduction in delivery times by one to two working days. 

The distribution centre supports the sustainability ambitions of the LEGO Group to reduce global CO2 emissions by 37% by 2032. By organising its logistics in this way, the LEGO Group will reduce total annual CO2 emissions by 2,000 tonnes. The building was built according to the environmental standards of BREEAM Excellent, a certification system that measures the sustainability performance of buildings. The wind turbine on the site generates renewable energy and the buildings are heated via geothermal energy. 

From this location, spare parts are supplied to BMW markets worldwide. Here, Kuehne+Nagel is responsible for the physical receipt of goods, pre-packaging, the management of packaging material and empties as well as the loading of goods onto shuttles for dispatch to all BMW parts distribution locations.

At the Dingolfing and Bruckberg sites, Kuehne+Nagel now also ensures the logistical handling of BMW spare parts for worldwide dispatch: regional distribution centres around the world are supplied with parts from here, which in turn ensure delivery to the local BMW dealerships in the individual countries.

Kuehne+Nagel thus supports the BMW Group in spare parts logistics with around 1,700 employees at various locations worldwide.

Today, Kuehne+Nagel, a global logistics company, announced details of a new contract logistics fulfillment center in Piscataway, New Jersey. The new facility is located approximately two miles from Kuehne+Nagel’s existing facility for a luxury retail brand. The 100,000 sq. ft fulfillment center serves as a fashion hub reflecting the company’s continued commitment to serving customers in the fashion and luxury markets. 

The site is being opened to support a new fashion customer and has approximately 55,000 sq. ft of additional available space. It is ideally situated close to John F. Kennedy International airport and Port Elizabeth, as well one of the top consumer markets for fashion in the United States. The facility uses automation and robotics for picking and putaway enhancing efficiency in the fulfillment process. Additionally, it features EV (electric vehicle) charging stations and LED lighting.

Kuehne+Nagel has opened two dedicated fulfilment centres for Elanco, a leading animal healthcare company, in Chengdu, West China. The new facilities now comprise a 3,000 sqm manufacturing warehouse and a 12,000 sqm distribution centre for finished products, increasing the total space in surface and storage capacity through optimised racking systems.

Both facilities fully comply with the regulatory healthcare requirements and are equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure to support efficient operations while contributing to reducing carbon emissions through electric warehouse equipment, LED lighting and minimised paper processes. Kuehne+Nagel, one of the world's leading logistics companies, has signed a long-term contract with Decathlon, a company specializing in the marketing of sporting goods and apparel, to expand its operations, warehousing and distribution capacity in Latin America by 30%.

To this end, Kuehne+Nagel has opened a new 15,000 square meter Fulfilment Center in Pudahuel, Santiago de Chile. The site has the capacity to store and distribute more than 10 million units per year and will cover Latin American countries such as Chile, Colombia and Mexico. Decathlon will thus be able to achieve a higher level of inventory accuracy and increase its operating volume to support growth.

The Fulfilment Center in Chile is equipped with the latest robotic system, which also addresses ergonomic requirements to improve posture at workstations. La compañía firmó un acuerdo para la utilización de un centro logístico de 15.000 metros cuadrados dentro del parque logístico de ENEA. Este lugar tendrá la capacidad de almacenar y distribuir más de 10 millones de unidades entregadas en el país al año, generando también un importante aporte para la comercialización en Latinoamérica en países como Chile, Colombia y México. Con esto, la compañía distribuidora de artículos deportivos podrá alcanzar un mayor nivel de precisión de inventario y aumentar su volumen de operación para soportar el crecimiento.

Logística inteligente

Para la realización de labores automatizadas, el centro de distribución en Chile está empoderado con un sistema de robótica de punta, que también responde a una necesidad ergonómica de mejorar la postura en los puestos de trabajo. Adicionalmente, esta tecnología de “Goods to Person”, permitió a Decathlon multiplicar por tres su productividad en los procesos de preparación de pedidos omnicanal. A fin de asegurar entregas de calidad, la operación es controlada por lectores con tecnología de Identificación por Radio Frecuencia (RFID) de última generación, lo que, junto a la robótica, permite asegurar una operación eficiente.

Kuehne+Nagel has expanded its partnership with Vestas, a global leader in renewable energy solutions from Denmark, by adding 60,000 sqm to its existing fulfilment center in Hodenhagen, Germany. From 2023 onwards, each year around 135,000 different items will be stored in the spare parts centre.

Spare parts orders for wind turbines are characterised by a high degree of complexity. The items range from small parts, such as electronic components, which are stored in a picktower, to hazardous goods, such as batteries, paints or lubricants, to large parts for workshop operations.

The range of services include storage, packing and load consolidation to order picking for outgoing orders and their dispatch, including customs clearance, all over the world and covering also direct deliveries to the wind turbines. Vestas connects its buyers and sellers of renewable energy parts and services via Convento, a digital business-to-business e-commerce marketplace. All orders on the Convento platform are served from the fulfilment centre in Hodenhagen.

The extension of the warehouse also meets the latest standards in terms of energy efficiency. This includes for example a roof-mounted solar system, LED lighting with motion sensors and charging stations for electrical vehicles.

Global logistics company Kuehne+Nagel announces the expansion of its healthcare contract logistics network in the United States with a new multi-client and GDP compliant facility adjacent to Indianapolis International Airport. 

The investment into the 166,000 square feet healthcare site will support the growing need for distribution facilities that are able to meet strict quality, regulatory and temperature requirements. Kuehne+Nagel is positioning the necessary infrastructure within key locations, such as Indianapolis, to better enable nationwide distribution and ensure patient access to vital healthcare products such as diabetes products. 

The site is part of a healthcare logistics campus designed to maximize the scalability, flexibility and reach of Kuehne+Nagel customers by integrating transportation and distribution management activities in the same facility. In addition, the site will be managed by tier 1 warehouse management systems, automation, and experienced personnel who understand specialized healthcare product requirements within a highly regulated environment.

Kuehne+Nagel Ireland will open a temperature-controlled facility to meet the growing demands of the country’s thriving healthcare industry. The site, scheduled to open in late July 2022, is strategically located near the Dublin airport and Dublin port. Along with three existing healthcare warehouses, it expands Kuehne+Nagel’s healthcare footprint in Ireland to  40,000 sqm. 

Ireland is one of the largest exporters of healthcare products globally, with over 50 FDA-approved manufacturing plants. Kuehne+Nagel’s commitment as market leader in healthcare logistics in the country continues with the investment in this new facility. It supports long-term collaborative partnerships with major players in the industry, enabling them to focus on core production and R&D activities. 

The new HPRA-approved facility has been optimised for all storage, distribution, and quality activities. The facility uses energy-efficient equipment to maintain the warehouse at a controlled temperature between 15-25 degrees Celsius, and will house 34,000 Euro-pallet positions with segregated loading and unloading gates.

Kuehne+Nagel, l’un des leaders du transport et de la logistique, a été choisi par l’enseigne Cultura pour gérer son site logistique de Moissy Cramayel en Seine-et-Marne (77). L’entrepôt de 48 000 m2 emploie 65 collaborateurs et couvre les expéditions pour l’intégralité des produits Cultura, hors livres, à destination des 97 magasins de l’enseigne.

Dans un contexte de croissance et de fortes saisonnalités, Cultura propose une grande variété de produits culturels, ce qui rend la gestion logistique particulièrement complexe. Pour répondre aux enjeux liés à la sécurisation des process, Kuehne+Nagel développe une offre de service orientée vers des process digitalisés avec des smartphones, dont les scénarios sont développés en mode graphique et vocalisés par ses propres équipes. Ces process sont complétés par des gants connectés pour scanner les EAN, associés aux codes détrompeurs couleur permettant ainsi une meilleure ergonomie de prélèvement.

Par ailleurs, Kuehne+Nagel alimentera une base de données photos pour tous les nouveaux articles, à l’aide d’un système de dimensionnement et de pesage, qui intégrera les données article. Ces photos seront affichées sur les smartphones des opérateurs, selon l’unité de préparation.

« Nous nous appuyons sur notre expertise de la suite logicielle Infolog de GENERIX, et de l’outil Velocity de WIIO, déjà déployés sur 30 autres sites en France, pour mettre en œuvre ces nouveaux process, complétés par notre propre BI pour le pilotage des opérations », explique Laurent Kraffmuller, Directeur Général Logistique Contractuelle, Kuehne+Nagel France.

« L’une des problématiques concernait la garantie d’une précision maximale dans la gestion des stocks et un service de qualité comme prolongement de notre activité, indique Arnaud Scheffer, Directeur Supply Chain de Cultura. Il s’agit en effet de sécuriser la préparation de 6 millions de prises par an, avec des pics dans l’année, pour des produits très variés, du jeu vidéo à l’instrument de musique en passant par les fournitures scolaires ou loisirs créatifs.
